Program Description
The Office of Instructional Technology is pleased to announce the availability of the ‘Digital Learning Faculty Certificate Program’ for the Spring 2008 term. This program is designed to provide faculty interested in developing and/or teaching an online course with best practices and strategies for success in the online arena. The program includes information on instructional design, time management, online assessment, academic integrity, electronic communication, digital copyright and other issues paramount to teaching online. The Digital Learning Faculty Certificate Program is a fast-paced 8-week course (Feb. 5 - Apr. 14 with breaks during the week of Mar. 4 and Mar. 18) offered entirely online through the Blackboard course management system.
**DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION: MONDAY JANUARY 28 @ 4:00 PM**
**DUE TO LIMITED FUNDING** We are seeking ONLY up to 5 faculty scholars who would be able to commit to completing the certificate and offer subsequent feedback and suggestions for improving the program. Based upon feedback from prior participants, the anticipated time commitment for completing this program is approximately 3-5 hours per week. Participants in the Digital Learning Faculty Certificate Program will be paid a stipend of $500 upon completion of the certificate.
By completing this certificate, graduates will
- Understand and be proficient in applying the principles of Instructional System Design (ISD) during the course planning and development process
- Understand the value of "Presence Learning" and be proficient in delivering course content using the principles of “e-Personality”
- Understanding issues of Academic Integrity in the online world and be proficient in implementing measures to discourage cheating online
- Become proficient in implementing effective time management strategies during both the development and delivery of an online course
- Understand and implement principles of “Netiquette”
- Understand the meaning of Fair Use and the TEACH Act and their implications for delivering electronic content through Blackboard
- Become proficient in the use of the Blackboard Course Management System and its integrated tools for supporting communication and assessment in the online classroom
- Understand SHU quality standards for online courses and the evaluation strategies to be employed to assess these standards
